Spam Poetry

Sometimes I get a little gem in my spam folder that is just too poetic to not share. Here is my favorite of this morning. Note the subtle symbolism and the obvious influences of Keats, Ezra Pound with just a touch of Whitman. It is my pleasure to present to you:

Announcement: Pittsburgh New Works Festival Selection!

Thursday, June 26, 2008

Exciting news from Phase 3 Productions!

This past Monday was the play selection meeting for the Pittsburgh New Works Festival. For us here at Phase 3 Productions it was a particularly exciting event. In many ways New Works is going to be our D├ębutante Ball. Our staged reading will be our first major theatrical event, so we're effectively coming out to theatre society. Like the metaphoric d├ębutante, we stand in our pretty gown waiting both nervously and eagerly for our grand entrance. We just hope everyone appreciates the effort we've taken to get combat boots that match the dress. That's where the metaphor starts to get sketchy, so it's best to stop now.

Play selection was an incredibly fun experience. There's nothing like gathering a group of talented, bright and enthusiastic individuals together for the same goal. When that goal is to showcase the work of emerging playwrights, the gathering gains an extra something special. To add even more to an already remarkable event, the other companies were fantastic. They were nothing but encouraging and friendly to the wacky new company. Not only are we going to have a great crop of shows this year, we're going to have fun working with everyone else on them!

Now for the part you've all eagerly been awaiting – the announcement of our staged reading. Play evaluation for the Pittsburgh New Works Festival is completely blind. At no time did we know anything about the playwrights we were reading. To our surprise and excitement, we selected a piece by local playwright Sloan MacRae! So, we are proud to present...

Theatre. Evolved.

Hello Internet!

First, I want to take a second to say 'Thank You' to everyone who's friended us on Myspace. Your interest in and support of Phase 3 Productions is greatly appreciated. Please take a moment to check out our web page. ( Not only can you make a secure donation, but we're going to constantly update it with information. Things are very exciting for us here at Phase 3 Productions. Things are coming together very quickly and we've got lots of exciting events coming down the pipe. I'll get to those shortly, but first I want to take a moment and tell you what we're all about.

Phase 3 is something special. "Theatre, Evolved." isn't just a blurb for us. Phase 3 is founded on a few basic principles. Theatre should be fun. It should be accessible. It shouldn't end at the door, but should engage the community. When you combine these qualities, you get theatre that is entertaining and socially aware. This is the theatre that Phase 3 Productions is going to bring you. You deserve it.

The process for getting a company like this off the ground isn't an easy one. Choosing a season, exploring spaces, and making a show are all fun tasks. There's also the filing of paper work, the significant investment of time and money in becoming a non-profit organization, trying to raise capital, and even the work of finding a good deal on printing posters. Luckily, we're a dedicated group.

That said, we need your support to make this work and there are many ways you can give it. It's easy to make a donation using your debit or credit card on website. Even a dollar will help us bring great theatre to you. Also, be sure to tell your friends about us. Direct them to our Myspace page so that they can get updates and learn about us too. Finally, please drop us a line anytime if you have questions, comments, or kudos. We want to hear from you!

Our inaugural season – Women Behaving Badly – will be announced shortly. Just a few details need to be worked out, but we're all buzzing with excitement here. To whet your appetites though, we've got a couple of announcements.
